Re: “Equity and Inclusion”
Dear Senator Merkley:
I am disappointed by one aspect of your support for transgender people, especially what is referred to as “gender affirming care.” I believe everyone with a disability should be respected by all and given the same rights as every other person with a disability.
When passing laws, it’s important to consider that whenever we grant special rights under the law to any person belonging to a class or group, other people lose their rights. Sometimes, as the case with slavery, this is justified. However, in granting special right and privileges to transgender people, who suffer from gender dysphoria, we automatically take away some rights from other people with disabilities, including Senator Tammy Baldwin.
For example, we now allow transgender people to serve in the U.S. Military, but don’t allow any other people with disabilities to serve. How is this fair?
In addition, it’s not equitable to biological women to allow men to use their physical strength to oppress women in sports and athletics, taking away scholarships and other opportunities. To any fair minded person, this should be obvious.
Finally, it is horrifying that you would support drugging, mutilating, and sterilizing minors because of what is usually a temporary impairment. Hopefully, someday you will see how wrong this is, permanently disabling children because of an impairment.
Sincerely,
Don Wolfe
