Hello,
In a revision of my earlier letter, I am writing to you again as an advocate for adults and kids with disabilities. As mentioned, I write about issues that effect our community (See: WOLFEWATCH.COM).
I was recently troubled by a comment from one of the local “liberal” news personalities, Sheila Hamilton (with Alpha Media) made earlier this year, in April of 2017 .
In her usual ignorance, she suggested that school districts did not have the right to take away a kid’s ‘enjoyment’ by not allowing them to play “dodge” ball — a “game” in which a person hurls an object at the body or head of another person, with as much force as possible.
As a very tiny kid who always wore very, very thick glasses, my elementary school regularly allowed the other kids to use a dodge ball to smash my glasses during gym class. Ironically, the man responsible, my principal was named Mr. Mock (Any relation to Linda Mock, the sexually-perverted Administrator of the Oregon Commission for the Blind who refers to male clients in her state Emails as being erect penises, with impunity?).
Apparently, my thick glasses made a perfect target for the bigger, stronger kids. As Principal Mock knew, by forth grade, I only weighed about forty some pounds. And I remember, Rocko and many of my fellow male classmates, and some of the girls, weighed about fifty or sixty pounds more than me. (In fact, my glasses, with all the tape, probably weighed more than me, back then…)
So, as a victim of this “game”, I was shocked by Sheila Hamilton’s suggestion when she said, ‘Some kids just need to learn to run faster’! WTF?
And I suppose when they grow up, and decide to hurl a car, truck, or bullet at someone else, would Sheila say the victims have no one but themselves to blame and could have prevented their death or injuries if they had only learned to ‘run a little faster’?
While her public support for putting fluoride in our water system proves to me she cares very little about our community, her failure to see that dodge ball is obviously a violent game that only promotes the same sort of publicly sanctioned bullying that the police are using on so many of us with disabilities, is horrifying.
I can’t imagine how any school or principal can allow kids to hurl an object at another kid’s head with all the force they can gather. Can you imagine how much force is being applied to the ball?
We now know that 99% of kids who play football are being brain damaged, and it appears that many of these so-called wrestling “coaches” are inappropriately touching the young boys, I can’t understand how any responsible school district can allow any of these three sports to be “played”.
David Douglas ought to be the first school district in America to end this practice…and take steps to really protect kids, instead of trying to blame disabled men for everything!
